The possibilities are endless when it comes to choosing a paper stock. We suggest a thick cotton stock of at least 110# for letterpress because cotton will compress more and allow for a beautiful impression. Of course, when it comes to cotton stocks the colors are a bit limiting so we’ve made a list of all the available stock options we believe are suitable for letterpress printing.
This is our most popular stock and one we keep in inventory. Lettra comes in 3 colors (Fluorescent White, Pearl White and Ecru) and is available in 90lb (great for digital printing combined with letterpress), 110lb and 220lb (ideal for printing double-sided). This is a 100% cotton stock and an environmentally friendly option.
A very beautiful stock from Italy that has a great texture and comes in a variety of subtle colors. The white and off-white stocks come pre-duplexed as well. You can purchase this stock in a variety of pre-cut sizes and the Arturo envelopes are uniquely beautiful, although they come with a more expensive price tag.
What can I say about this paper line? They have EVERYTHING from solid colored stocks of any color imaginable to patterned stocks and envelopes. French’s is a great place to turn if you want to stand out. Check out all their stock options here.
We suggest also checking out the line of heavier cardstocks that French’s carries, as these will allow a deeper impression on press.
Mohawk is a great place to turn for bright and colorful paper stocks. They have envelopes in a wide range of colors as well. They are a great line to check out, especially if you are looking for brightly color envelops to complete a print package.

Looking for a stock with some color and cotton options just aren’t fitting the bill? Check out Neenah’s Classic Crest line. It comes in a variety of colors and thicknesses, and is another good option to consider. Although this line is not a cotton stock, it still preforms well on press and is very versatile. From business cards to folding cards, Classic Crest has you covered.
Reich Odeon is another great option for letterpress. Their website says it all:
“Fashions come and go, but authenticity is timeless, and our ODEON specialty paper is unrivaled in that respect. Instead of simulating the effects of vintage craftsmanship, this visually and texturally evocative paper truly is the genuine article.
ODEON’s luxurious finish and deep rich texture is the result of an old world, artisanal technique where a textured felt surface is used in the paper making process. Most papers today are embossed to look handmade, while ODEON is a genuine-felt finish paper which makes it very strong and durable, yet soft and flexible, where even the 130# single-thick cover folds with ease. ODEON performs beautifully on press making it the perfect choice for projects from luxury packaging and hang tags to invitations and direct mail.
Reminiscent of gilded movie palaces and candle-lit jazz clubs, ODEON emanates a glamor and elegance that guests, clients and customers will instantly appreciate the moment their hands touch this exquisite paper product. The bold, modern hues available in our ODEON series perfectly complement the lush felt finish for an immersive effect that exudes quality and sophistication with a contemporary feel.
With four surface-enhanced colors and two standard colors to choose from, ODEON can be tailored for your chosen palette, be it for luxury packaging or wedding invitations. So, whatever the occasion, why settle for imitation for your specialty paper products when you can have the real thing with ODEON?”
